The Polis network seeks to build on the work of the individuals and organisms that work in the domain of environmental education, by means of the exchange of experiences. Documents of all sorts that are sent by our partners ? papers, books, research reports, project presentations, etc. ? are processed by the network’s facilitators in order to produce “experience cards” based on the methodology of the “DPH cards” (Dialogues for the Progress of Humanity). These cards are short articles that describe an experience, an Environmental Education project, the evaluation of a method, the main lessons derived from a book, a report or the utilisation of an educational tool, etc.
Experience cards are first of all distributed through our linkage bulletin Dialogues for Environmental Education, a printed publication. Forteen issues of this bulletin have been published so far in English, French and Greek, and they have been distributed to a list of more than 1,000 people and organisations in more than sixty countries. About thirty experience cards were included in the book Education et Environnement, published (in France) by Editions Charles-Léopold Mayer (Documents de Travail, no. 71).
In January 2000, Editions Charles-Léopold Mayer published the book in French Une Education relative à l’Environnement pour le 21e siècle. Eléments de débat et perspectives, edited by Polis. This book includes 60 experience cards and a critical analysis of the current trends and challenges of Environmental Education. This book has been published in English by Polis, in Greece, with the title Environmental Education for the 21st Century; issues and perspectives for a permanent forum.
In 2001, Editions Charles-Léopold Mayer published, in France, the book “Education à l’Environnement. Six propositions pour agir en citoyens”, coordinated by Polis. This book has also been published in English (in India), in Portuguese (in Brasil), in Spanish (in Perou). The Greek version of this book is in the making.
The experience cards prepared by Polis and its partners are also included in the Web site of the Alliance for a Responsible, Plural and United World and are diffused through the DPH network.
Polis offers as well information and assistance services to the individuals and organisms that are active in the domain of Environmental Education worldwide. Notably, Polis provides information about possible partners for joint projects, bibliography, educational materials, and methodological or conceptual assistance.
