Introduction of Manfred BERGMANN
Manfred BERGMANN
Sunday, January 05, 2003 6:36 PM

Hi there,

I am Manfred Bergmann and I work in Rome, Italy, for integrating migrants and refugees with a local non confessional volunteer association and various non-profit and institutional (local and international) partners.

I also translated and published in Italian the full texts of the :
-UN 1990 Convention for the Rights of the Migrant Workers and the Members of their families ( just now entering into force) http://www.ipeck.or.kr/ipeck/awn/others/b_oth003.htm
-Declaration and Program of Action of UN Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance (Durban's WCAR) http://www.un.org/WCAR/

I think I will be able to follow the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) http://www.itu.int/wsis/index.html for advocating migrant and refugee rights with other NGOs and experts, and I invite everyone interested to lobby for migrants and refugees at UN.

I am following the debate at WP21, and I find it interesting also for the training of volunteers and operators of one of our working groups, where we teach Italian language (about 30 teachers) and provide shelter, orientation, free internet access and training to many migrants and refugees in Rome and Italy.

Our next target is to establish a coop for recycling hardware, studying and creating other jobs for refugees, migrants, Italians, but we need a new generation of professionals. For training these professionals we cannot rely on State schools, or private universities, but we have to add the practice and values of NGOs.

Season's Greetings

Manfred Bergmann
