ººº Abstract: I do like the argument about nation state. The analogy to the fighting boys is correct and makes the complex situation easy to understand. However, elections do not give us the opportunity of showing and choice real alternatives. Peace movement, World Social Forum, * cacerolazos * are examples of demand of real choices. WP 21 process could understand itself as instrument to trigger essential ideas like. The more compatible those ideas will be the more people will be moved by them. ººº
John, I do like your argument about nation state. The analogy to the fighting boys is correct and makes the complex situation easy to understand. What I think is that we, citizens, have to be aware of the situation which you describe. Being aware needs to show its expression by action: * whose streets - our streets! * The streets and squares are the places to demonstrate our visions. Elections do not give this opportunity as mostly we only can decide within alternatives, which are * no real alternatives*: most of the different parties do not question the status quo which we like to alter!
Take today's peace movement all over the world for example! Their common goal: No War! begins to show effect. The effect depends on the number of the engaged people willing to demonstrate their conviction. Next step could be to move with masses to Baghdad to prevent military action.
We can discuss real choices with a vaster public and in case of further consent we will march for them out to our streets.
The same principle of demonstrating a different political intention we could use for our purpose. We could try to refine central important and leading ideas which we share within this forum. We can discuss them with a vaster public and in case of further consent we will march for them out to our streets.
Take the * cacerolazos * for example! We could perform such action everywhere! If democracy does not work any longer within the given systems we are obliged to try new ways in order to reanimate democracy! Social Fora like those inspired by Porto Alegre are part of this new development.
I do not believe that we can change the old structures we have. Far better it seems to me to start with new concepts. As I can see this is happening already everywhere.
Likewise No War! we might demonstrate for example for the idea expressed by the First Principle (Alanna Hartzok, 303) or any other item we consider important enough. Compatible ideas will produce resonance. And resonance will show effect also within those people who still keep the old and outdated structures alive.
Even Donald Rumsfeld (US Secretary of Defense) one day might feel his heart bumping! Nobody would be bombed to death if the human being at the trigger would have to look into the eyes of his or her target.
WP 21 process could understand itself as instrument to trigger essential ideas like. The more compatible those ideas will be the more people will be moved by them. Will be moved to express their legitimate will in the public of our streets, everywhere. National borders do not exist in the reality of the life on this planet. National borders are historically grown artifacts of social development and will be overcome by just the same development towards planet peace.
hugs to everybody, Wolfgang --
