Hello all, Jean-Marc Flament,
I have thought long and hard before answering this listing by Jean-Marc
Flament. Partly because I believe that he at least feels he is correct in
his feeling and secondly because of the complexity of his claims.
At first I thought it was not appropriate to discuss this issue in the forum
platform. Yet it seems that Jean-Marc Flament personal views and mine as
different as they are, represent what in the end the WP will need to deal
with.
To me Jean-Marc presents a view shrouded in historical comments, name
calling, and do it my way or else.
The statements are totally one sided and disregards the complexity that
surrounds all of the so called simple projections of truth. Do I think he is
wrong? Honestly with all the rhetoric I really can't understand his point.
I clearly understand he does not like the United States.
What I find most interesting in Jean-Marc's statements is some kind of godly
mystical belief that somehow the United States is responsible for the
poverty of the world and that it is the United states responsibility to
solve it, else we are bastards. Of course the rest of the world has no
responsibility in this matter.
You suggest strongly that the lack of credibility and integrity of the
elected officials all over the world are somehow the responsibility of the
United States? Has it ever occurred to you that this so called power of the
United states would not exist if those elected officials all over the world
did not agree to it and use it?
There is now over 80% of the population of the United States in favor of the
war. That is the people of our country not the government. Do you really
think each one of us are going to get their own oil well? Do you really
think The American public even care about oil? Trust me, not all the oil in
the world is worth one American life.....
It might surprise you to know that with all the hype surrounding the Iraq
War that few Americans actually feel it is about Iraq directly. I am not
going to get into that discussion because if you understood I would not have
to explain and if I had to explain you would not understand.
Americans understand that a small percentage of the Middle East feel that it
is O.K. to kill people to further there opinion. That concept is accepted in
a number of sovereign states in the East. It is clear to those of us that
can think that the killing of innocent people will not stop until these
small groups are eliminated. If that means removing the states that support
them and encourage this kind of diplomacy then so be it.
9/11 was the beginning of the end for these groups, and what ever it takes
the United states will end it.
It would be wise for people like Jean-Marc to recognize that it is the lack
of understanding of these basic issues of self protection that is driving
the American public to not only ignore European opinion, but to also
considered Europe as part of the overall terrorist problem.
In the end the terrorist issue will be gone. The damage done to the UN and
the worlds people I am afraid will not recover.
My goals in the WP is to seek solutions to issues such as this. I believe
Jean-Marc that you are sincere.
I also believe you read too much and think too little. Solutions will be
found in controlling our elected officials all over the world. Solutions
will be found in understanding others opinions and working to create resolve
for the issue not the ideology or history. Solutions will be found when we
all understand we are the same, that we work for all the people.
We will find justice and harmony in the world when we finally learn that
truth, justice, understanding, love and caring, are not the property of a
few. But are on loan to all of us from the universe, less we take care to
use them properly or loss all the promise we could achieve.
Like most Americans I am against war. To suggest that President Bush could
create this war without the public opinion is more a demonstration of your
lack of knowledge of the United States government and our people then of
reality.
A third option to the UN resolutions that would have dealt with terrorism in
a meaningful way, would have without doubt stopped that War. I blame the UN
for that.
Its my belief in the strength of that third opinion, the other approach that
keeps me with the WP Forum. I believe that a WP can reach universal
agreement that, people should not kill people, That people should not be
allowed to starve, That those in need should be afforded support and help,
that Being alive is just the beginning of life and all should be afforded an
opportunity to grow beyond themselves and make their lives better.
Jean-Marc this is just a thought. If in the call for consensus it was agreed
that Iraq should be eliminated, would that be your opinion also? I don't
think so. If that is the case, then how do you think your one sided view
will ever gain resolve? If I am wrong in saying you have a one sided view,
its because I don't see any other in what you have said. Maybe it is
something you know that you feel should be understood.
With that said I respect your views and what you stand for, your approach is
the only area in which I disagree with you. And feel it can only serve to
stop communication and agreement not further it.
Best regards, Frank Houck
