To promote a global democratic political forum in coalition with others
Fernando IGLESIAS
Monday, 14 April 2003
Here is Fernando, from Buenos Aires.
I want to do two quick observations on the topics on discussion and on the
current situation regarding the war.
1 - first: a question of method. I find very interesting to think in some
questions of the WP as the language, political participation or existence of
a department dedicated to the art, etc. however, we should consider that the
function of this Forum is propitiating a WP and not to deliberate in its
place, which I am afraid that it would be not very democratic since nobody
has chosen us for to do that. Therefore, I believe that it would be
necessary to be focused in * how to achieve a WP * even if this one is close
initially to the habitual outline of politics and leave eventual
reformations to the deputies chosen by the citizens of the world, isn't it?
2 - in this sense (How to reach in having a WP as soon as possible?) I do
believe that the spectacular growth of the World Social Forum can show the
way to be followed. I do public here some thinking and discussions sustained
with Troy.
I believe that we need to promote a Global Democratic Political Forum or
Global Forum by a Global Parliament or something similar.... in coordination
with the WSF, with Lille, with Montreal, Asissi or with any others who agree
with this.
If the discussion on WP doesn't reach a global scale (as is doing
embryonically the WSF) the rest is almost useless. If we have any role in
this process it is not of creating a WP by ourselves alone but opening up
globally this topic and the discussion on a WP and Global Democracy.
3 - Finally, concerning the end of the war, it becomes necessary to differ
the logical refusal to this of the refusal anti-American to the United
States. A polarization between United States and the rest of the world not
only doesn't make difficult the warlike plans of Bush but rather - as the
September 11 showed with incomparable effectiveness - it facilitates and
promotes them. Only some global democratic institutions - as the WP - could
promote an overall plan of disarmament of weapons of massive destruction
that includes United States, their main possessor. Of course, it is not by
burning American flags that this can be achieved, but invoking the
democratic genuineness in which the American democracy is based, at a global
level in which it is decisive today.
Concerning these points 2 and 3 I am enclosing two Word documents with short
articles that I have written on this topic, which are in hands of Germà and
available to those interested.
