Re: Guerre en Iraq
Frank HOUCK
Tuesday, 22 April 2003

Hello Jean-Marc , and All,

Bravo, if we were in the UN and making the decisions, I wonder what would have happened.

I am almost dumb struck with your response. Preparing for an onslaught of hype, there was none. (well, very little) yet, all had a basis of fact, which I appreciate.

If you dropped the reference to oil, and the comparison of 9/11 against definite civilians to the acts of targeted bombs if they could possibly be related. Lets not go there, My understanding is that S.H. has killed millions, with torture and imprisons children for not becoming soldiers. Lets not try to balance the loss of life, but reason to end it forever. You would have a publication that most Americans could read and listen to, maybe even agree ;).

The Osama in hiding statement was an exaggeration and you know that. At best he was a water boy at the time of the Russian conflict. And to my understanding he was independent from the USA support to Afghanistan.

The thousands of Osama in Hidings that was to happen with the war in Afghanistan did not happen. In fact we have had not one attack sense then.

That's not justification, it's observation. And as a bonus Pakistan is moving towards normalization, and even targeting terrorism.

Many of us here in the states feel that there would be no more fighting in Iraq if it weren't for the so called foreigners from Syria. One of the terrorists capitals of the world.

What you said about our presidents and elections. You could also quote Socrates, making the same exact statements, and you could along with the United States add all the elected governments in the world. That happens to be a problem with all democratic elections. Money talks, unfortunately. That 's why I feel an automatic impeachment process is mandatory if the will of the people is not adhered to.

And please if you are going to reference past American presidents, JFK and Carter are not good ones. Use Thomas Jefferson, By far the most humanitarian president that ever existed in the world. And he was that before he was elected. JFK is the only U.S. president that almost ended the entire world in less then one minute. Yes, he was very likable, also very scary. And Carter he was so weak you would think Iran was a world power. Many believe he is responsible for the increase in terrorism and its escalation form hijacking to bombing. Evidenced by the immediate release of the hostages when Reagan was elected.

To our point. I have never been for the war with Iraq. Not even now as it is turning out to be positive for different reasons. I have been simply against doing nothing. And continuing what hasn't worked for twelve years is nothing. If a universal power is to control the world it must be taken seriously. If S. H. has demonstrated anything, he demonstrated he was going to listen to no one. My feelings on this issue is that force should have been stepped up in stages, until compliance was attained. That way hopefully understanding war would come eventually there would be no need to go that far. And the same should be for any country that lets organizations exist within their territory that permits people to kill people. That is the real issue here. Think during this war, a terrorist group killed innocent people in Israel and called it a gift to Iraq? No one in the East was upset with that, in fact they think it is normal. Happen much in Belgium?

That needs to stop in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Egypt where ever it exists. The UN needs to be strong enough to do at least that. Knowing there will be consequence will put an end to it. If the UN makes it clear it will not be tolerated and acts when it has to, it will stop. And believe it or not it will not need war. Just knowing it will happen will be enough.

It would appear I have not given you the credit you deserve. So you do think. And clearly at that. Yet you still need to understand more about the American public. Our internal government is not as powerful as you think. If you pay attention to the news in the United States you will notice the American public is at least as hard on corporate corruption as it is with terrorism. As this issue becomes a national issue and impacts other countries, that's were we can find a resolve with a WP and make a difference together.

To go one step further I would say I probably think to much and read to little ;).There has been a lot said that the United States needs to understand why the Arabs are mad. I don't have to understand why any person feels it is within their right to kill someone for their own gain. Believe it or not I accepted their approach of hijackings when they didn't hurt anyone. It made an impact, enforced their opinion, but no one was hurt. Killing is to far, I will never accept it and feel what ever has to be done to stop it is justified. But I don't believe that means go right to war, it means do what you have to, to stop it.

The listing ** Procedure in 5 years for a WP ** Was insightful. But how does a disagreement like ours work?

I think our goals are the same, how to make it work is still the question. Jean-Marc I am German-Irish, a Vietnam veteran, the youngest of seven boys, and the second generation in the United States. My family survived world war one and world war two. I have now only two brothers. I know the meaning of war.

Shame on the UN,

Frank Houck
