Re: From the World Social Forum, to the World Social Assembly?

Dear Germà: thank you for your appreciations. In any case, I want to point
out the few points in which we differ and to mark some ideas.
1 - I would insist in the denomination Forum and not Assembly. a) because we
should avoid any confusion on the character neither solving neither
representative of the event, b) because it takes advantage of the media
impact of Davos and POA (Porto Alegre) from the point of view of the
diffusion and c) because it establishes the idea that between the economy
(Davos) and the society (POA) only a democratic politics can establish a
space of convergence and * conflictive balance *.
2 - I believe that the Forum should be directed to achieve the participation
of political parties and political figures of global relevance. With all its
defects (strongly increased for the discrepancy between economic
globalization and national political systems) the democracy based on the
universal vote, division of powers, the majority principle and the minority
rights, is the best political technology that has been - up to now -
invented. To all the problems derived from a WP we should not add innovative
ideas that could be denounced as utopian by those who are opposed to
democracy on behalf of prudence, but to await the constitution of the WP to
bring them to the legitimate representatives of the citizens of the world.
3 - I believe that in this way the * Forum for a Global Democracy *,
following your proposal of presenting it in the WSF 2004 in order to
celebrate a first edition in 2005 (what do the other participants of this
electronic forum think about asking the governments of the cities where we
live if some of them wants to finance the organization and to gain enormous
benefits - tourism, global diffusion, etc. - that it would represent?) could
be, at the same time, a common activity with all those proposing UN reforms
(Ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.org, WFM http://www.worldfederalist.org/,
etc.) and with other groups that are working for a global democracy, and
that should be our main task as promoters of a global democratic order based
on representative institutions. Otherwise it would open better financing
possibilities for any foundation interested in such topics.
Fraternally
Fernando
