Hello Jean-Marc, and all,
I find it interesting if not frustrating that no matter how hard I try, I know you are not seeing what I am saying.
I also concede that it must be equally difficult for you. Yet I understand what you are saying and feel conformable where that information is coming from.
Maybe I made things worse by making light of some of the things you have said that were basically true. My meaning was not that they were not true, simply not relevant.
Yes, they are relevant to your conspiracy principle. And if 9/11 didn't happen and the war did. You would find me saying the same things you are, far more aggressive, both in words and in deeds.
Why don't you for a moment let go of your intellectual arguments for a moment and look at what is really happening? Strictly on an emotional level. What do you think was in the minds of the people in Europe as London was bombed by Germany? Do you think anyone thought about the damage and problems that were created by Europe in Germany, that lead to World War 2? Europe made Hitler possible. Do you think anyone in England, France, Poland, etc., thought well we should not fight back we brought this on our selves?
This is not an argument or a justification. It is where the American people are right now. History is like statistics you can bend it anyway you want.
You understand and felt 9/11, I know that because you are a fair and just person. What you don't know is the American public cannot stop living that horror. We see it and feel it every day. Its not fear, its hard to explain. Like the loss of you first born and that doesn't even explain it. Don't know if anyone can.
Myself and everyone I know are torn between the rage of revenge and our inbreed humane principles and desire for peace. Justice is the best we can hope for because of who we are, and justice it will be. What makes this kind of killing possible is terrorists so terrorism will end, what ever it takes.
If you remember long before the war started I said, the choices at the UN were no good. War or nothing were the choices. The French position guaranteed war. If there were a third choice, the UN to police the world and remove all terrorist groups no matter where they were. There would have been no war.
If you can somehow put yourself in the shoes of Americans and walk a mile. You will see why the Arguments that are in the European media stir outrage in the States. You will then understand why I know although the wars will end, the damage done to the peoples of the world will never recover. Europe may forget, Americans won't.
I am trying to get you to understand that this issue is far deeper and far more basic than politics.
Do you think the SARS epidemic is having an impact on financial travel? Think about this. SARS has what, 3500 cases. In the States we lose 35,000 a year to the flow. In the States when things turn out not as planned, but work out as desired, we call it a marriage of convenience.... Who is it impacting? I can't speak for the rest of the country, but I have cancelled a $350,000 order from Germany. And I am not even angry. Its about knowing who your friends are.
A WP must understand why things are happening. If the world focused on the real issue there would be none. I tried to get you to understand that this is not about governments its about people. there is nothing in history that can change what happened, people will be who they are. Unless you agree with terrorism, and I don't think you do, then how to remove it should have been the topic. And if President Bush was the Hitler that Europe would suggest, there would be holes where Afghanistan and Iraq use to be.
Because we both agree that War should not happen, yet it would appear somehow we disagree. Suggests we are on the right path but the wrong road. It would be nice to hear from a third party out there in the group that feels they understand both sides.
Sincerely,
Frank Houck
